About Us

Y2K and 90s pop culture, made into streetwear. Queer-owned, printed in the shop, made for anyone who wants to dress like it is still 1999.

Aliens of Brooklyn started in Crown Heights, Brooklyn in 2012. Y2K and 90s pop culture, made into streetwear. Queer-owned, made for anyone who wants to dress like it's still 1999.

Meet the founder

Aliens of Brooklyn is the work of Joseph Angel Tijerina, an artist who grew up in Texas and studied at Wade College before moving to New York. He had never visited the city. He moved anyway, landed in Crown Heights in 2012, and started making the clothes he wanted to see: loud color, tie-dye, and 80s, 90s and Y2K pop culture, filtered through Brooklyn.

The name came from a late-night search. Joseph looked up whether real aliens lived in Brooklyn, found reports of sightings, and decided the name was too good to pass up.

Aliens of Brooklyn is a Mexican American and LGBTQIA+ brand. It opened its first storefront in the East Village in 2022, now lives at 304 E 5th St, and in August 2025 brought the brand back to Texas with a shop on East 6th Street in Austin.

Walk into either store and the goal is the same: laugh at a shirt, find a word that sounds like you, and leave wearing it.

Read Joseph's story in his own words in EV Grieve's visit to Aliens of Brooklyn (August 2022).
